Dennis Taylor is a Northern Irish former professional snooker player, world champion and one of the sport’s most recognisable personalities.

His defining career moment came at the 1985 World Snooker Championship, where he faced Steve Davis in one of the most famous matches in snooker history. After trailing 8–0, Taylor produced an extraordinary comeback, with the championship eventually being decided on the final black in the final frame. Taylor potted it to win 18–17, becoming world champion in what became known as the legendary “black ball final.”

The match attracted a huge UK television audience and remains one of snooker’s defining moments. Taylor was also instantly recognisable at the table for his distinctive oversized, upside-down-style glasses.

Following his playing career, Dennis became a popular BBC snooker commentator and pundit, remaining closely associated with the sport for decades.
